The Lower Sacramento River has been fishing as well as you might see as of the past week. It’s been a stellar start to the Spring season to say the least. The weather and river conditions have been ideal. There have been bugs flying most of the day and it’s been a smorgasbord of options for the trout. Various Caddis, mayflies, stoneflies and eggs have been catching plenty of fish. On the calm days, there can even be the chance to throw the dry fly to rising fish. This won’t happen everywhere on the river – so keep your eyes peeled to locate these opportunities. We’re expecting some cloudy drizzly days accompanied with continued warmer temps. This can be the recipe for even better fishing. As we roll into the meat of Spring expect the hatches to continue to grow and fishing to stay right on pace with where it’s at now. We don’t have an excess amount of water in the lake like the past few years so worrying about high flows is out of the question this year. Come and get some of the best trout fishing in the west this Spring!
