Spring has sprung here in Northern CA and ain’t nobody upset about that! We’ve had an incredibly nice transition from a mild Winter into Spring and there are some fantastic Fly Fishing options right now in the North State. The Lower Sacramento River is starting to fire on all cylinders. The bugs are starting to fly and the trout are chowing. Caddis, Mayflies, Stoneflies – a little bit of everything has been on the menu for the big fish in town. In these lower, clear flows you can also find fish feeding on top during certain times of the day. We are primarily nymph fishing most of the day but there can be small windows to throw the floating bug to noses on the surfaces if you know where to look. These river conditions and weather are the perfect combination for an awesome day on the Lower Sac. We’re looking forward to a very memorable Spring on the big tailwater! The Upper Sac and Pit are both great options for those that want to get out and spend a day walking and wade fishing. Conditions are prime on both of these river right now too. As we get deeper into Spring the bugs and hatches on the smaller freestone style streams will start to really crank and will make the fishing even better. The past two years, we’ve dealt with higher flows and less ideal weather and river conditions.. to say the least, we’re super stoked for this year’s Spring trout fishing!!
